When TikTok became popular among virtual users, other big companies tried to bring some of its key features to their platforms. That’s why YouTube Shorts was introduced, which has a similar feature to those short and vertical TikTok videos.

Publishing a Video on YouTube Shorts
Follow the steps below to learn how to share a video on YouTube Shorts.
Note: If you want to publish a video in the Shorts section through your computer, follow the normal video upload process. Videos less than one minute will automatically be placed in the Shorts section.
- First, open the YouTube app on your smartphone.
- Then, select the plus sign icon (+) in the middle of the bottom bar and tap “Create a Short”.
The device camera will open in this section, and you will have access to various options, which we will explain in more detail below.
- The “Add Sound” option at the top of the page allows you to add music to your YouTube Shorts video. In this section, you will have access to many free music options. After selecting the music, click the adjacent arrow to return to the video recording page. Of course, you can also choose not to add any music.
- To record your video, tap the red button at the bottom of the page. You can hold it down to stop recording by lifting your finger.
- If you are unsatisfied with the recorded video, use the “Undo” button with the arrow icon on the left side. If you regret deleting the video, you can retrieve it using the arrow on the right side.

Now let’s move on to the right side of the page, where each tool is for improving your video.
- Flip: With this option, you can switch between the main and selfie cameras.
- Speed: You can increase or decrease the video speed using this tool.
- Timer: This button allows you to change the countdown for starting the recording. You can also select the starting point of the music from the bottom section.
- Effects: This section can add any effect to your video.
- GreenScreen: This option can remove the subject’s background and replace it with your chosen image.
- Retouch: Clicking on this option will retouch the subject’s skin.
- Filters: It displays various filters that you can choose from.
- Align: If you want to take a transition video, this option can help you. Align helps you synchronize your video with what you took a little earlier.
- Lightning: This option adjusts the brightness of the image.
- Flash: It turns on the device’s LED flash to improve the image’s lighting.
- Trim: With this option, you can delete parts of the video.
After recording the video, tap on the side of the screen to move to the next step. Several options will appear in front of you, and we will explain the functionality of each one below.
- Sound: If you still need to add music in the previous step, this icon will appear, and you can add it to your video from this section.
- Adjust: Use this option to adjust the music.
- Text: You can add text to your video using this section.
Timeline: If you have added text, you can use this option to adjust the time it appears.
Filters: With this option, you can add new filters to your video.
- After making the necessary changes, click on Next to proceed to the final step of uploading your short video on YouTube.
- Enter the title of your video in the top box.
- By selecting the Visibility option, you can see three options: Public, Unlisted, and Private. Also, you must use Schedule if you want your video posted at a specific time.
- With the Location option, you can enter the geolocation information of the video.
- Select Audience is also used to choose the Audience (children or adults).
- Finally, click on the Upload Short button to upload your video on YouTube.

Using the sound of other videos:
If you liked the music or original sound of one of the videos while watching YouTube Shorts, you could easily use it in your clip. To do this, follow the steps below:
- Click on the icon at the bottom right.
- You can see other people’s videos on the opened page with this sound. Click on the Use this Sound button.
- The rest of the process is the same as the steps we mentioned in the previous section.
Adding descriptions to other people’s Shorts videos:
Sometimes you want to add descriptions to another user’s video. The Remix button, patterned after Stitch in TikTok, makes this easy. We will explain how to use it below:
- The Remix icon is seen on the right side of the page. Click on it.
- You can select a short part of the video on the new page.
- Then click on Next.
- The remaining steps are the same as in the first section of this article.
